As well as pouring over Monty and Sara Lewis’ Explorer Chartbooks of the “Far Bahamas” and “Exumas and Ragged Islands”, we are making use of the Stephen J. Pavlidis cruising guides, “The Exuma Guide” , “On and Off the Beaten Path” and “Puerto Rico”.
Blake of Slow Mocean loaned us “Old Man and The Sea” by Hemingway (of course!). Timing is everything and reading this classic at this point in our journey was just perfect.
Robert is enjoying reading one of our second-hand bookstore finds that we brought along, Walden by Henry D. Thoreau, “copyright, 1950, by Harper & Brothers” with introduction by Joseph Wood Krutch. Unlike our counterparts in the USA where Thoreau is required reading in school, we did not discover Thoreau’s philosophies on life until we lived in the US.
Trish is enjoying “The Best American Travel Writing 2008”, a thoughtful bon voyage gift (Thanks Beth!). The collection of short stories by 25 out-of-the ordinary travel writers is edited by Anthony Bourdain, “Traditional travel writing follows the author on a voyage with a beginning, a middle, and an end..... I like to think that the stories in this collection have aggressively avoided that formula.”
